Be a Tease!: Get Your Audience Excited for More 😉 — August 2023 Newsletter

Hello again!

Welcome to the dog days of summer, which was named for the time in late July when the star Sirius would appear in the sky. The Romans referred to it as "days of the dog star."

Can you tell I'm in full research mode for my book, as I wrote about last month? I feel the need to write the story behind everything I can think of lately. You can also see what I've been up to with my monthly montages I've been doing over on Instagram.

So enjoy this month's quick tip and check out the bonus tip over at Buy Me A Coffee that's for everyone — not just supporters 🙂

This Month’s Podcasting Tip

.Create an excited and engaged audience by teasing upcoming episodes.

If you’re the type of podcaster who plans their content in advance, consider letting your audience know what to expect at the end of your podcast episode. This gets folks excited and can incentivize them to subscribe to/follow your show.

Have you ever found a podcast you loved and went back to the beginning to catch up? I absolutely have and those teasers would give me a reason to say, “Oh, I can’t miss that! Just one more podcast episode, I think …”

Don’t just tease your episodes within your podcast – make sure you’re teasing future episodes and guests on your social media accounts, on your website, and in your email newsletters and however else you communicate with listeners.

More of a last-minute kind of person? Show some behind-the-scenes sneak peeks while working on the episode before it’s released to generate some interest. I love posting a photo or two to my Instagram Stories when I’m recording or editing, for example. This can prime your audience to expect something new from you, even if they don't know what it is yet.

Don’t forget that even a few minutes spent promoting your podcast can add up!

Work With Me On Your Podcast

Are you a longtime podcaster who feels stuck and thinking about getting professional podcast help? You may benefit from a podcast audit — a Strategy Session where I listen and research your podcast and check your podcast for any “leaks,” so to speak, that may be keeping you from reaching that next level or breaking those download plateaus.

Sign up for a Strategy Session and under the question “What are you looking for?” on the intake form, let me know you’re interested in a podcast audit!

See if a Strategy Session is right for you.

These 30- or 60-minute sessions are where you can pick my brain about all things podcasting, whether it’s planning your new podcast and making sure you start off on the right foot, asking about podcast equipment recommendations that won’t break the bank, or growing your show and taking it up a few notches.

About Me

I’m Emily Prokop, a podcaster, editor and educator. I created & hosted the Webby-nominated podcast, The Story Behind, among a number of other podcasts I’ve been a part of. As the owner of E Podcast Productions, a podcast editing and consulting business, I’ve been helping podcasters plan, improve, and grow their shows for the last 5 years.

I’m also an introverted, neurodivergent married mom of 2. When I’m not wearing a pair of headphones to record or edit a podcast, you can find me singing in choir, wandering in the woods, roller skating around my living room, or trying out a new hobby or ADHD hyperfixation on Instagram and now Threads!
