Hey there, podcasters!
A lot has gone on over the last few months (years?) since I last updated the blog. For one thing, I’ve taken a few steps back from all I used to do with E Podcast Productions. I’ve stopped consulting and doing podcast audits and shifted to focusing more fully on the service side of the business — podcast editing and producing.
Maybe I’ll continue with the blog from time to time, but for those waiting on my monthly newsletter, it might be a while.
I have so many thoughts about the changing podcasting industry that I’d love to be able to sit down and put into words sometime, but not today.
But here are a few things worth mentioning for now:
Not all podcasts need video. Stop making that the reason you’re not starting that podcast.
Vet your guests and research them before you invite them on your show. Even if you’re doing it for a “different perspective,” giving someone a mic on your platform still reflects on you.
What worked in podcasting 5 years ago is tired and overdone now.
Yes, it seems every celebrity has a podcast. No, being famous does not automatically make someone a good podcast host.
Your editor/editing can make or break your jokes.
If you use any kind of automation on your podcast, you must do a Quality Check. AI-edited podcasts often sound unnatural and stilted because the so-called editor just glanced at the transcript and it probably “looked just fine.”
Please consider Android users who don’t have Apple Podcasts! I have to have 2 apps to listen to podcasts — YouTube Music and I(Heart)Radio — because if there’s a show I want to listen to, I can almost guarantee it will be on one and not the other.
Anyway, I guess that’s all for now!
