Whether you’re just getting started with your podcast or you’ve been behind the microphone for years, it’s always scary when you put something out to the world.
Even if you’re a veteran podcaster, some little part of you may still get that jolt of panic as soon as you press Publish. So many “what ifs?” can come into our head in those milliseconds as we watch our show upload to the world.
This week’s word is COURAGE.
What makes us press that publish button? Courage. What brings us behind the mic every week? Courage? What makes the muskrat guard his musk? Courage. (OK, that last bit might have been from “The Wizard of OZ,” but you get the idea.)
If you had unlimited courage, what would you do?
“The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.” - Coco Chanel
That, right there, is the epitome of podcasting! Your podcast is unique because YOU are unique. Your audience finds you and continues to listen because they know, like, and trust YOU. And putting yourself out there takes courage.
Honestly, even posting to social media for me takes courage some days. Because it’s me. It’s what I like. It’s my family, friends, activities, all that stuff that I used to be very private and reserved about. But I realized the best way to help others is to let them know they’re not alone.
And being yourself takes courage!
Some things to think about or try this week:
What is holding you back?
Try something new to expand your comfort zone.
How would you talk to a friend if they were afraid of something?
Remember that you are bigger than your fear.
Recognize your own courage and courage of others.
Avoid comparing yourself to others, especially if they are on Step 20 and you are on Step 1. Theodore Roosevelt is quoted with saying “Comparison is the thief of joy.”
Remember that every podcaster has their own "Episode 1," when their voice may have been a little shaky, or they thought to themselves "Who is going to listen to little ol' me?" But they had the courage to start and, more importantly, keep going! And so do you, dear podcaster!
